Q: Do I need to know Chinese to study MBBS?

A: Your clinical and medical classes are taught 100% in English. However, to interact with local patients during your hospital internship, the university requires you to pass the HSK4 Mandarin exam before graduation. XJTU brilliantly structures the curriculum so your entire first year is dedicated to mastering the Chinese language, ensuring you are fully prepared before heavy medical subjects begin.

Q: Is it difficult to survive as a vegetarian?

A: While traditional Chinese food culture is heavily non-vegetarian, Indian students adapt seamlessly. The university canteens have specific vegetarian options if you know where to look. More importantly, most Indian students prefer to cook their own familiar meals—from daily curries to weekend sweets—using the accessible dorm kitchens and local fresh markets.

Q: What are the realistic monthly living expenses?

A: Freshers often overspend in their first few months, but once you settle into a routine, Xi'an is very affordable. If you cook your own meals, you can easily live comfortably on 1,000 RMB (~₹11,600) per month. If you prefer to eat all your meals at the university canteen, budget around 1,500 to 2,000 RMB (~₹17,400 to ₹23,200) per month, excluding luxury or recreational spending.

Q: What are the hostel rooms and rules like?

A: Students have the independence of no strict curfews, backed by the safety of 24/7 campus security. Depending on your budget, you can choose a single or a shared (double) room. The infrastructure is top-tier: rooms have air conditioning you control freely, central heating from November to February, and there are absolutely no hidden electricity bills to worry about.

Q: Will I get actual hands-on experience during the internship?

A: Yes. You aren't just standing in the back observing. During your 12-month internship at the affiliated hospitals, you will be doing clinical rounds and gaining real diagnostic experience.
